“Milky Way walked out with no vocalist and no need for one.

Opening for Cog isn't a small moment, especially when you're instrumental and the room is full of people who connect through lyrics. But they didn't try to overcompensate. They let the guitars speak.

Layered, cinematic builds stretched across the room, slowly pulling people in before crashing down with real weight. The drums weren't just keeping time, they were driving momentum. The bass sat thick underneath it all, holding everything together and giving it punch.

You could actually see the crowd shift as the set unfolded. At first people were curious. By the end they were locked in, watching every note land.

No frontman. No filler. Just music that stood on its own.”

Distorted Dispatch

“ ‘ZERO DAY’ is the latest single from progressive Perth-based metal band MILKYWAY, and it is the type of track that transcends expectations.

The main aspect that immediately stands out about 'ZERO DAY' is the fact that this track is entirely instrumental. This unique quality really draws attention to the beautifully complex and technical music that MILKYWAY have written and created.

Taking inspiration from modern progressive metal, alternative metal, and cinematic sound design, MILKYWAY have crafted a sound which captures the duality between heaviness and emotional depth.

From the moment you press play, 'ZERO DAY' is immediately technically razor-sharp and dynamic in it's sound. Melodic riffs chug against the rhythm of shifting time signatures, creating a sound that atmospheric, and in those slower moments, delicately heavy.

The conclusion of this track is especially cinematic and ethereal, as everything slows down into a single haunting whisper of a note. Ultimately I just really loved hoe effective this song was in conveying emotion in such a nuanced way.

Although ‘ZERO DAY’ lacks vocals, it did not subtract from the listening experience whatsoever. There was an emotional heaviness to this track that I think really could have only been conveyed in this way, without vocals or lyrics to drive the storytelling.

This choice allows listeners to craft their own story when listening to this track and to feel the emotions through the music more deeply.”
